In T&T we often hear that we have to go to a police station in a particular area to file a report..but is this true?

No this is not true - you can go to any police station; this is according to the Trinidad and Tobago Police Service’s One Door Policy.

TTPS Departmental Order No. 139

TTPS One Door Policy

ALL MEMBERS OF THE PUBLIC may make a report/statement at ANY Police Station or to ANY POLICE OFFICER ANYWHERE.

ALL OFFICERS ARE MANDATED to:
1) Record, at least, the arrival of the person at the station or interaction.
2) Take the person’s report or statement and
3) Ensure that the matter is addressed or forwarded for attention to the relevant station.

MEMBERS OF THE PUBLIC ARE NOT TO BE TURNED AWAY OR SENT TO ANOTHER STATION.

The TTPS One Door Policy means you may report a road collision at any one of the nation’s police stations, and the report is must be taken.
